Guests

Walter Hill

Walter Hill
We are fortunate to host an experienced scientist who worked previously at Scottish Water. Walter was the team leader managing the inorganic chemistry section. He spent more than forty years working for the organisation through many name changes. When he started work there it was called the Mid–Scotland Water Board. Walter has been helping out in the biochemistry analytical laboratory in his spare time, keeping his brain and his skills active in retirement.

Zhengshuai Liu

Zhengshuai Liu
Zhengshuai is a joint PhD student between the China University of Geosciences and Heriot-Watt University. His research interests focus on the mechanism of coal reservoir sensitivity, including the effect of flow velocity, effective stress and acid on the permeability, and coalbed methane seepage and diffusion in coal reservoir. He is also very interested in multiple migration mechanisms coupled with multiple-fields for coalbed methane reservoirs. Zhengshuai will be working in the Lyell Centre until October 2020.

Dr Zeinab Smillie

Dr Zeinab Smillie
Zeinab Smillie is Daphne Jackson/NERC Research Fellow with an expertise in mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry. Zeinab's current research concentrates on deep-water sedimentary systems and processes, especially the contourite deposits from the IODP Expedition 339 on Mediterranean outflow.
Telephone: +44 (0)131 451 3845
Email: z.smillie@hw.ac.uk

Dr James Spray

Dr James Spray
James recently finished his PhD at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton and has come to the Lyell to assist PhD student Sara Trojahn and Dr Ryan Pereira with characterising the behaviour of organic matter during atmosphere-land-river interactions in peat-dominated catchments.
